
Eligibility: Rising college freshmen, current college students and recent college grads who have previously participated in SSA, MedSOAR, or DCDO Pre-Med Advisee. Candidates also must be US citizens / legal resident aliens, lawful Michigan residents and must have completed 12th grade.
Brief Description: "MedSOAR provides an opportunity for highly motivated incoming college freshman, undergraduates, and recent college graduates, particularly those from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds, to explore potential careers in the field of medicine. Program participants work in a research lab or clinical setting and gain essential skills necessary to become biomedical science professionals. Research areas include, but are not limited to, pathology, internal medicine, anatomy, physical medicine, a rehabilitation, pediatrics, nursing, and veterinary medicine. Past research topics ranged from high-tech computerized brain imaging to biostatistical analysis. Clinics are in different areas such as pediatric, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and primary care fields. Participants also learn about health disparities. As many as fifteen (15) students are selected to participate in this full-time summer health-related research and/or clinical experience, which starts in June and ends in August. The MedSOAR Program is fully funded by the University of Michigan Medical School; there is no tuition charged to program participants."
Program Duration: ~2 months during the summer, which includes orientation, training and placement in a research lab or clinical setting

Miscellaneous: Living stipends of $250/week for high school students and $350/week for undergrads are provided to program participants. Students are only eligible to participate in MedSOAR twice
