
Program Name: Undergraduate Research Opportunity International atRheinisch-Westfalische Technische Hochschule in Aachen (UROP International)
Eligibility: Students must meet the following requirements:
2nd and 3rd year undergraduate student
Student of a US or Canadian university
Brief Description: UROP International is a summer program that combines intensive language courses with a research project undertaken with a faculty member at RWTH Aachen University. Most positions are in Science and Engineering, however there are a few Humanities positions that can be found in their internship database. Students can also submit their own project proposal for review and grant/advisor consideration should they not find a project of interest in the database.
Program Duration: "The program‘s duration is ten weeks. The first two weeks are dedicated to an intensive German language course and an introduction to research and culture. Weeks 3 to 10 are settled around the research internship in one of the departments of RWTH Aachen University. Leisure activities will be offered to ensure the students’ integration and exposure to German culture and the international community on campus."
Application Process: The deadline for submission is typically at the end of January. Application consists of a letter of recommendation from supervisor at home university, resume, letter of motivation, academic transcript and enrollment document from your school's registrar.
Miscellaneous: UROP International requires a €50 administrative fee from successful applicants, which will be returned upon arrival. The organization also has 30 scholarships to help eligible students lessen the costs of transportation, accommodations, etc. during students' stay in Germany.
